Andrew Brooks, Sinclair Global Founder and Executive Chairman of British TV Broadcaster ITV Talks at the NRF 2020 Vision Panel

The Vision 2020 panel discussion at the National Retail Federation (NRF) conference in New York on January 10th, 2019 was moderated by NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. The panel featured Andrew Brooks, Sinclair Global Founder and Executive Chairman of British TV Broadcaster ITV; Laura Lee Browning, Chief Strategy Officer for Pandora; Pam Danziger, founder of Unity Marketing Group; Jim Fitterling, Vice Chairman of GE Digital; Kathy Grannis-Riordan, Head of Industry Innovation for Walmart U.S.; Dr. Stephen Langerhans, VP & CTO for IBM Watson IoT Platforms & Solutions Division; and John Kelly, VP of Innovation and Service Engineering for GE Digital.

The panel was primarily focused on the role infrastructure plays in the future of retail and the Internet of Things (IoT). Panelists discussed how digitalization can enhance consumer experiences while improving efficiency at retail locations. The discussion also veered into automation such as self-checkout and the impact it has on jobs.

Sinclair Global Founder and Executive Chairman Andrew Brooks kicked off the discussion by highlighting how technological advancements are changing how customers interact with retailers. He pointed to the growth of ITV, a broadcaster in the UK that he founded, as an example of how technology can be used to improve customer experiences. ITV serves almost half of the British homes and sold to more than one hundred countries. Brooks believes that the key to ITV’s success is its focus on creating great content and using technology to improve the customer experience.

Pandora Chief Strategy Officer Laura Lee Browning also discussed how technology can be used to enhance the customer experience. Andrew Brooks, Sinclair Global Founder highlighted Pandora’s efforts to personalize its music streaming service for each user. Browning said that it is important to have a personal connection with customers in order to build loyalty. She thinks that self-checkout kiosks are an example of how retailers can improve the customer experience through technology.
